Shop FAQs
Do I need an appointment?
We strongly urge you to schedule an appointment in advance whenever possible. As a small shop, we often fill up days in advance for vehicle alignments, repairs, and inspections. While we understand that breakdowns or accidents can be unexpected, we gladly accept tow-ins and emergency repairs; but, please note that it may take us a couple of extra days to complete the necessary diagnostics and repairs.
How do I schedule an appointment?
You can request an appointment for either location here on the website, via email at americanalignment@gmail.com or by phone at 757-547-3052 for our Great Bridge location or at 757-512-7454 for our Deep Creek location.
How long will my service take?
The time it takes to complete your service is influenced by our current workload, the specific services needed, parts availability, and whether you scheduled an appointment. We consistently strive to complete all services efficiently; however, repairs may occasionally take longer than anticipated. If you have a specific timeline, please let us know at drop-off, and feel free to call for updates during the repair process. Typical service times include:
- State Inspection- 45 minutes to 1 hour
- Alignment- 1 1/2 hours to 3 1/2 hours
- Oil Change- 30 to 45 minutes
- Tire Rotation – 30 minutes
Can I wait while my service is completed?
For routine services like oil changes and state inspections, feel free to enjoy the comfort of our lobby. However, we advise against waiting for repairs or alignments, as these services usually take an hour or more to complete.
Do you have a loner car I can use?
Currently, we do not have loaner vehicles available for use due our small business size.
Do you offer payment plans?
We do not offer in-house payment plans; however, we confidently accept a wide range of payment methods including cash, credit, WEX, insurance, and fleet payments. We’re proud to provide free estimates before any services are performed. If you have financial concerns, we encourage you to discuss them with our receptionist and technician at drop-off. They can present alternative, lower-cost options, such as used or aftermarket parts, that may be suitable for your needs.
Vehicle Service FAQs
Does my vehicle need an alignment?
- If you answer yes to any of the following conditions, you should consider an alignment for your vehicle:
- Recently installed or replaced:
- Tires
- Suspension Work such as shocks, bushings, struts, and tie rods
- Installed a lift kit or lowered the vehicle
- Any other front-end or suspension work completed
- Are experiencing:
- Pulling to one direction
- Shimmying or vibrations while driving
- Vehicle that doesn’t drive straight or handles poorly, especially when cornering
- Steering wheel is off-center when driving straight, vibrates or feels loose

- Recently:
- Hit a large pothole, curb or road debris potentially causing wheel or tire damage
- Recently installed or replaced:
Are alignments guarantee for life?
While we can’t offer a lifetime guarantee due to the various factors that can impact your alignment, we strongly advise practicing safe driving—like steering clear of curbs—and committing to regular preventative maintenance, such as tire rotations, to minimize the need for frequent alignments.
What type of oil do you use and how often do I need to change it?
We confidently use full synthetic oil in the precise weight and viscosity that your vehicle demands (i.e. 5W-20). We recommend synthetic oil changes every 5,000 miles to ensure optimal performance. After your oil change, you will receive a sticker in the upper left-hand corner of your windshield that clearly indicates when your next oil change is due.
